Step 3:  Combine and Record Different Mono WAV Files

An unique feature of MonoSter is it's ability to process and 'combine' two different mono WAV files into a single stereo WAV file.  One of the mono files is inserted into the stereo file as the 'left' file and the second different mono file is inserted as the 'right' file.  The resulting 'stereo' WAV file is formatted as a normal audio WAV file and can be recorded and played like any other stereo WAV file.

To use the 'different files' processing mode select the menu item 'Processing/Options' and click on the 'Combine Different Mono Files' check box.  Note that clicking on any checkbox  toggles that option On and Off.  Clicking on the 'OK' button takes you back to MonoSter's main window.  Text has now appeared in the window reminding you that MonoSter is in the 'different file' mode.  In this mode only a single pair of mono WAV files can be handled at a time.

The different mono files are selected using the menu item ' File/Add File'.  Selecting this menu item causes a standard Windows file dialog box to appear so that you can browse and select a mono WAV file in the usual way.  After the first selection the dialog box asks you to pick a second mono WAV file.  Again you can browse and pick any file on your computer. After the second choice the dialog box prompts you to select the name and location of the resulting 'stereo' file.

The stereo file is created by MonoSter by placing the first mono file picked in the 'left' channel of the stereo file and the second mono file is placed in the 'right' channel.  Whichever file is shorter is padded with zeroes to match the length of the longer mono file.

The resulting 'stereo' file can be played and recorded like any normal audio stereo WAV file.  A typical way to use this feature is to listen to one mono file at a time with the 'balance' knob of your playback system hard left or right.  In this way the recording capacity for mono WAV files onto a CD is effectively doubled.

Since MonoSter only processes one mono file pair at a time in the 'different file' mode, a cuelist of 'different' files can only be assembled by first creating a number of 'different' stereo file one at a time in the 'different file' mode.  Then, the 'different file' mode should be exited by unchecking the option in the menu item 'Processing/Options'.

When back in the regular MonoSter mode the 'different' stereo files (files consisting of  different and unrelated mono WAV files) can be assembled into a cuelist the normal way by drag-and-dropping files from the Explorer window or adding files using the menu item "File/Add File".  A cuelist can contain any number or combinations of 'different' stereo files  and can be played or recorded to a CD like any cuelist of 'normal' stereo files.  Remember to refresh the Explorer Window view in the lower half of the screen prior to this last step.  This is required to make the newly created 'different' stereo files appear in the file trees.
